Online Music Production Group Course
Most courses teach you tools. This one teaches you to finish.
By the end, you will have finished a track. Not a loop. Not a file called “new idea 17.” A complete piece of music.
That is the part almost everyone gets stuck on, and the part most tutorials skip. We cover the fundamentals properly, but every lesson points toward turning an idea into something you could actually release.
You do not need prior experience. Some students have never opened Ableton before week one. Others have made music for years and want better structure. Both fit.
What to Expect❋ A Real Course, Not a Video LibraryA 12-week live course for people who have been meaning to make music and never quite started. No experience needed.
❋ Small Enough to MatterCapped at 25 places so that everyone still gets real feedback on their own music.
❋ Taught by a Working ProducerLearn from an ARIA charting producer who's signed to etcetc music and Sweat It Out, and still writes, releases and mixes every week.
❋ A Community That Doesn't EndPrivate Discord for feedback, questions and sharing work. New intakes join the same server, so the group grows rather than resets.
Meet your Instructor
Jeremy Smith has been producing music for 18 years and teaching at Lab Six for over a decade. He releases as Palais, with ARIA chart positions and over three million streams, and has signed releases with Ministry of Sound, Sweat It Out!, etcetc Music and Love Clvb. He has collaborated with producers including Jeff Bhasker, FnZ, Georgi Kay, Crooked Colours and more.
None of that makes someone a good teacher on its own. What it does mean is that the advice comes from someone who has actually finished and released records.
Around a third of the last intake were returning Lab Six students who had learned from him before and came back for more.
How It Works-
Grab your spot through the Register button on this page. Places are capped at 25 per intake and they do fill up.
-
Before the first session you’ll get everything you need: the Zoom link, your Discord invite, and a simple setup guide for Ableton. Any version works, including Intro.
-
One live two-hour session a week on Zoom, 6pm AWST.
Can’t make one? Every session is recorded, so you can catch up in your own time and ask questions in the Discord.
Zoom and Discord are both free.
-
Each week builds on the last: collecting ideas, committing to one track, arranging it, effects, automation, sampling, synthesis, then mixing. Homework is small and practical, and there’s feedback along the way.
-
The whole course points at one thing: a finished track. If you want to put it out into the world, every student gets free distribution to Spotify, Apple Music and the rest through Lab Six Distribution.
Frequently Asked Questions-
No. Plenty of the last group had not either, and several of them were sharing finished tracks within a month.
-
You are not. The last intake included people in their fifties and a couple of retirees, and they were among the most productive in the group.
-
You do not need any. Week 3 covers recording with a phone or a laptop mic.
-
Intro is enough. Nothing essential in this course is locked behind Standard or Suite.
-
Every session is recorded and downloadable, and you can bring your questions to Discord or to the following week.
-
Only if you want to. Everyone works towards a finished track, but what you do with it is entirely your call.
